While most countries already had their own national associations,\n the main platform for international exchange was the International Association of Agricultural\n Economists (IAAE), which organised triennial congresses and occasional meetings.\n <\/p>\n <p class=\"entry-text\">\n At the 1970 IAAE congress in Minsk (Belarus), a group of European agricultural economists\n <strong>began discussing the idea of establishing a regional European association<\/strong> and launching a\n dedicated journal. However, it took five years before the European Association of Agricultural\n Economists (EAAE) was officially founded, as the initiators needed to resolve questions regarding\n membership (whether it should include individuals, associations, or both) and to overcome\n hesitations about creating an organisation distinct from the IAAE.\n <\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n\n <!-- 1975 -->\n <section class=\"entry entry-1975\">\n <div class=\"timeline-col\">\n <div class=\"year-badge\">1975<\/div>\n <div class=\"entry-line\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n <div class=\"photo\">\n <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev2.cantalupe.net\/eaae\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/2148580016.jpg\" alt=\"Agricultura\" \/>\n <\/div>\n\n <div class=\"text\">\n <h2 class=\"entry-title\">First EAAE Congress<\/h2>\n <p class=\"entry-text\">\n The breakthrough came at the <strong>first EAAE congress in Uppsala in 1975<\/strong>, where the association\n was formally established and recognised as a legal entity under Dutch law. The first Constitution\n allowed membership not only for individuals but also for organisations\u2014though later this was\n restricted to individual members only.\n <\/p>\n <p class=\"entry-text\">\n The Constitution of the EAAE states that 'the object of the Association is: (a) <strong>to promote the\n knowledge and understanding of agricultural economics<\/strong>, in particular in the European context;\n and (b) <strong>to promote the exchange of experiences, ideas, and information<\/strong> among agricultural\n economists\u2019.\n <\/p>\n <p class=\"entry-text\">\n The EAAE pursues this mission by organising congresses, seminars, webinars, PhD workshops, and\n Reading Circles for its members. In addition, it publishes three scientific journals: the European\n Review of Agricultural Economics, Q Open, and EuroChoices. This milestone\n highlighted how the association\u2019s interests and activities over the past five decades have been shaped by\n evolving agricultural challenges, policy debates, and advances in scientific methods and technologies.
