Early Career

Support for researchers in the early stages of their careers

The EAAE supports the professional development of early-career agricultural economists through dedicated programmes and activities. These
initiatives provide opportunities to build skills, present research, and connect with peers and senior colleagues across Europe.

Activities

Reading Circles

Reading Circles are small groups of 8–12 EAAE members who meet regularly throughout the academic year to discuss a selected book, a set of journal articles, or a methodological topic. They bring together members with expertise on the subject and those who wish to learn more, fostering knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue, and professional development across generations of agricultural economists.

PhD Workshop (biennial)

The European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) has been organising PhD workshops for 20 years. The objective is to give European PhD students from different countries the opportunity to present their research in progress in a conference setting and to get feedback from peers and senior economists. Participants benefit from plenary sessions in which keynote speakers present their most recent contributions and provide guidance on how to successfully carry out research in the agricultural, environmental, food and development economics domain.‘

The 11th EAAE PhD Workshop will take place at the University of Évora, Portugal, from 17–19 June 2026. You can find more details on the website: https://eaae2026.uevora.pt/

Please contact the Secretary-General of the EAAE (secretariat@eaae.org).

Mentoring

The European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) is committed to contribute to the career development and success of all its members, particularly early career agricultural economists. Therefore, the EAAE Board decided to establish a Mentoring Program in 2022 matching more established and senior members of the Association with early career members. The primary goal is to help younger members to acquire critical skills to help them achieve their career goals. A secondary goal is to cultivate a spirit of collaboration and cooperation between different generations of EAAE members.
